The Ciclope Festival 2024, hosted from October 8 to 10 in Berlin, was a resounding celebration of excellence in advertising and film production. Held at the Konzertsaal der Universität der Künste, this year’s event provided a platform for industry icons, innovative creators, and emerging talents to share insights. They also explored trends and honored the best creative work.

This was our first experience at Ciclope, and what a whirlwind it was! Between networking moments, quick breaks, and engaging lunch discussions, we immersed ourselves in a packed program of insightful panels and impactful webinars. Some sessions truly left a mark on us, and we’re excited to share a snapshot of these moments with you.

Founded by Francisco Condorelli, Ciclope Festival unites global talents to celebrate the artistry behind advertising and filmmaking. Hosted by the dynamic Kerrie Finch, who energized the audience with her opening line, ‘And remember: the front three rows are guaranteed new business,’ this year’s festival offered an engaging mix of inspiring sessions and unique networking opportunities.

Panels and workshops.

The festival kicked off with a focus on AI and Virtual Worlds. William Bartlett from Framestore led a session on how AI is reshaping content creation, especially in VFX and immersive experiences. He provided examples of Framestore’s AI-enhanced projects.

Later, a notable session featured Nike’s “Awaken Your Madness” campaign, with behind-the-scenes insights from Jordi Pont (Nike), Becca Pottinger (Wieden+Kennedy), and director Sam Pilling. This panel explored the extreme commitment of top athletes. They captured the essence of pushing creative and physical boundaries to deliver powerful branded storytelling.

In another session, panelists Dave Rolfe (WPP), Daniel Bergmann (Stink), and Paulina Anna Embart (LEGO) discussed the transformative role of technology in production.

They examined how collaboration, transparency, and innovation can help navigate complex production landscapes. This underscored the role of adaptability in creative success.

“How Can Craft Persist?”

One of the key moments – especially for our community – was The “How Can Craft Persist?” This panel explored the challenges and opportunities faced by creative industries in an era increasingly shaped by budget constraints. They also discussed evolving communication strategies.

This session brought together industry leaders including Luke Atcheson from Zalando, Florence Jacob of Caviar, and Arno Moria from Division. They shared insights on maintaining high standards of production and creativity despite financial pressures.

They discussed how shifting client-agency dynamics require revised business strategies and emphasized collaboration as essential to preserving quality. The panelists examined questions central to today’s market: how can craft thrive when cost-cutting is pervasive, and what innovative practices can ensure that creative integrity remains at the forefront?

This discussion offered a valuable perspective on navigating the new production landscape. The insights apply across advertising, film, and digital content creation.

Creative sessions with Jason Kreher of Maximum Effort

Jason Kreher of Maximum Effort, known for producing high-impact campaigns with a unique blend of humor and sharp commentary, held one of the most talked-about panels.

He discussed the team’s distinctive approach to storytelling, which combines entertainment with brand objectives. This session resonated deeply with attendees, illustrating how creativity can redefine brand perception and consumer engagement.

Live interview: David Droga

A highlight of the event was David Droga’s live interview, where he shared insights on modern advertising’s role in meaningful brand-audience connections. Hosted by Maisie McCabe (Campaign UK), Droga emphasized the importance of authentic storytelling in the digital era. He leveraged his extensive experience to inspire creatives.

Meet the director: C PRINZ

At the Ciclope Festival 2024, C Prinz delivered a deeply personal and artistic presentation on her journey as a self-taught director with SMUGGLER. She reflected on her bold creative path and unique storytelling style. She shared her process behind standout projects like her banned Crazy music video, which won multiple awards. Emphasizing the power of embracing imperfections, her work highlights an original blend of choreography and emotion.

There were countless other inspiring moments from the rich program of the Ciclope. However, as you can imagine, it was impossible to attend every session while also engaging in networking. So, we recommend exploring Ciclope’s program page for a complete view of the event and speaker lineup. A dedicated section with replays is available if you’d like to revisit specific talks!
