At FilmmakersWorld, we are always excited to bring our audience closer to the creative minds behind some of the most compelling cinematic projects.

Recently, we had the privilege of hosting an exclusive Instagram Live session (with over 10K people tuned in total) featuring the director Michelle MacLaren, Cinematographer Markus Forderer, and action specialist Martin Goeres of the Apple+ TV show “Constellation.”

This ambitious project, produced by the acclaimed French production company Haut et Court and British production company Turbine Studios, has captured the imagination of audiences worldwide.

The Magic Behind “Constellation”

“Constellation” takes us on an epic journey through space as a group of astronauts returns to Earth only to discover that the world they left behind is no longer the same. This thrilling narrative, inspired by the historic mission of NASA astronaut Scott Kelly and Russian cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko, explores themes of altered realities and a woman’s quest for answers.

Our Instagram Live Session

During our Instagram Live session, hosted by Emanuele Giannini from FilmmakersWorld, we delved deep into the making of “Constellation.” We were joined by the brilliant minds behind the series:

Michelle MacLaren, known for her exceptional work on projects like “Game of Thrones” and “Breaking Bad,” shared her vision for “Constellation” and the unique challenges of directing a space saga.

Markus Forderer, known for “Red Notice” and “Independence Day: Resurgence”, discussed the visual style and cinematographic techniques that brought the story’s altered realities to life, drawing inspiration from both classic and modern sci-fi aesthetics.

Martin Goeres, the action specialist, known for “Matrix Resurrections” and “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation”, gave us a glimpse into the intense preparation and choreography involved in the show’s action sequences. His expertise ensured that every scene was not only visually stunning but also grounded in a sense of realism.

You can catch the full session below and on our YouTube channel. We divided it into two parts for you for a better experience.
Let us know in the comments if you loved it and want to see more sessions like this!

The Visual Journey

Markus Forderer’s cinematography is a highlight of “Constellation,” blending high-contrast imagery with intricate lighting setups to create a visually captivating experience.

The choice of shooting locations and the use of anamorphic lenses added a layer of depth and immersion that transports viewers into the heart of the story.

The success of “Constellation” is a testament to the power of collaboration. The synergy between the director, DoP, and action specialist, along with the rest of the production team, brought a unique energy to the project.

This collaborative spirit is evident in every frame, making “Constellation” a standout in the realm of space dramas…you know, we love to highlight teamwork! Every time at every level is all about that!

Cineflares

If you’re a lens nerd and especially into lens flares, you’ll be excited to know that Markus, besides being a top lens expert, has created a library named Cineflares to allow everyone to experiment with images and flares. We suggest taking a look and trying it out! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Markus, you can find him also on Instagram.

Looking Forward

As we concluded our IG Live session, the enthusiasm for “Constellation” was evident. Michelle, Markus, and Martin’s insights showcased the dedication and effort behind the series, leaving us eagerly anticipating their future projects.
