Hello, FilmmakersWorld community! We’re thrilled to share a special treat with you today—an exclusive look behind the scenes of Paris – Dead Chic, the latest music video by Andy Balcon, directed by Anastasja Black and captured through the lens of Rowan Biddiscombe (The lord of the Rigs :P)

We’re especially grateful to our friend and contributor Rowan Biddiscombe for sharing his creative process with us again and offering unique insights into how these stunning visuals were crafted for our community and readers.

In case you missed it, we interviewed Rowan a few months ago about another Dead Chic project with a very particular rig (AGAIN :P). You can find it here: Dead Chic “Good God”—Directed by Rowan Biddiscombe and Andy Balcon.

Let’s go back to “PARIS”. Filmed in the Parisian desert, this project brought together a passionate team driven by a shared vision to create something unforgettable. Anastasja reflects on the experience, noting that the team’s dedication to excellence often meant overcoming numerous challenges, turning countless “No’s” into “Yes’s,” and pushing the boundaries of creativity.

This is how director Anastasia Black describes this unforgettable experience—a project born out of passion and resilience.

And what a journey it was! The result is a visually stunning piece reflecting the collective effort of talented individuals across various departments—from cinematography to VFX, editing to color grading. It’s a true testament to the power of perseverance, as the team worked tirelessly, often spending long hours perfecting every detail.

In addition to beautiful visuals, this music video embodies the spirit of collaboration and the dedication required to bring such a project to life. Explore the post on our Instagram to dive deeper into the technical choices, with notes directly from the cinematographer Rowan Biddiscombe.

📝 Dop Notes By Rowan Biddiscombe👇

This one is a special project for us. Andy (the lead singer of Dead Chic) has been a close friend of mine for almost 15 years, and as his music has progressed, I’ve also been moving forward in my career as a cinematographer.

With that in mind, it felt so special to work with (the extremely talented) Anastasja Black to build a crew made almost completely from friends and family, spending a week in the Tabernas desert to pull this crazy video together.

Absolute legends the lot of ya! The backpack rig was something I discussed with Anastasja from the very beginning and was one of the only ways we felt we could get the tracking horse shots we needed.

The ever-excellent Dexter Holt and Luke De Borde cobbled it together outside a DIY store in Spain using rented and borrowed tools under my (non-expert) guidance. If I’m totally honest, I don’t think anybody was prepared for how well it worked 🤣.
