Hey community!
Another month, another round of incredible filmmaking talent showcased on FilmmakersWorld! Throughout February, we featured some of the most visually striking and technically impressive projects from our global community.
As always, selecting just five was no easy task, but these highlights stood out for their creativity, craftsmanship, and storytelling impact. Let’s dive into the best of February!
1. 🎥 Harbin BTS by @xm2cine
The breathtaking opening scene of Harbin is not CGI—it’s 100% real. Captured by the expert team at @xm2cine, this aerial masterpiece was filmed over the frozen Khuvsgul Lake in Mongolia. This location transforms into a vast ice sheet during the winter.
Flying an ARRI Alexa 65 with ARRI Rental DNA lenses on a custom-built Sierra drone, the crew braved extreme conditions. They faced icy winds, freezing temperatures, and the challenge of launching from the lake’s frozen surface. The result? A mesmerizing, high-altitude perspective that sets the tone for the film. This effect could not be replicated digitally.
2. Behind the Scenes of Dior Spa by @sidneybaucheron
Bringing elegance to life on screen requires not just vision but also clever on-set solutions. This stunning Dior Spa commercial, captured by DoP Benoît Delhomme and directed by Romain Le Cam, takes us behind the scenes of a visually mesmerizing shoot.
What made this project stand out? The unexpected role of little ducks! 🦆💡 As shared by Gaffer Sidney Baucheron, the team experimented with random water effects from different tanks. They used playful and unconventional methods to create the perfect reflections and lighting sparks.
3. Blackhole—Behind the Scenes of an Epic Music Video by @michael_keeper
Combining cinematic drone work with a high-energy music video is no easy feat. Yet, the aerial team behind Blackhole delivered a breathtaking performance.
The opening shot was meticulously planned as a continuous backward fly-through of an oil rig. It revealed each band member in perfect sync with the music. Aerial DP and pilot Michael Keeper executed the shot while maneuvering in extreme proximity to the talent. This ensured every move aligned flawlessly with the track’s beats.
Beyond this ambitious opener, the team at Camera On Wings captured cinematic orbits, dynamic overhead shots, and precision fly-throughs. They used the DJI Inspire 3—with a standout moment being the guitarist on a smokestack helipad. This was filmed with a 75mm f/1.8 FF macro lens.
For Keeper, a fan of Architects, this shoot was more than just a project—it was an honor to craft the aerial cinematography for one of his favorite bands.
